More Andean Pebble Weave Patterns by Laverne Waddington

More Andean Pebble Weave Patterns brings you one hundred and thirty-two charts for patterns that have been inspired by and adapted from motifs on textiles and other sources from around the world. Those who are familiar with the methods that Laverne Waddington presents in her previous publications on Andean Pebble Weave and complementary-warp pick-up will have all the skills necessary to be able to enjoy this latest set of patterns. Those who own her 2012 publication, More Adventures with Warp-faced Pick-up Patterns in which she used the spotted charting system, will now have access to those very same patterns and more (six new patterns have been added) drawn on the more classic block-style charts.

Inspiration has been taken from textiles woven by Guaraní weavers in the tropical lowlands of Bolivia, tablet-woven bands with knot-work and historical motifs, storage bags from Baluchistan and textiles of Central Asia, Komi knitwear of Russia, Kuba cloth of Central Africa and sash patterns of Russian origin. The collection also includes geometric, human and animal figures from contemporary Andean handwoven cloth.

Six of the smaller geometric motifs and four of the animal patterns have been previously published among Laverne’s books Complementary-warp Pick-up, Complementary-warp Pattern Book and Andean Pebble Weave on Inkle Looms. Pattern-size ranges from eight threads per pattern shed to one hundred and four. Forty-three of the one hundred and thirty-two charts require from eight to twenty threads. Thirty-six require from twenty-four to forty threads. Forty-one require from forty-four to sixty threads and twelve require sixty-four or more.
